Angel Orchid

Chapter 4

“Annette, hey.” Oretta said walking into the premises.

“Hey, looking pretty as always. I thought it was weird when I saw the boss in today but now I presume you both have work to finish up.” Annette said.

“Weird, why?” Oretta asked.

“He’s never in from thursday’s down to the weekend.”

“Huh, that’s usually when I’m off as well.” Oretta thought, “Well, just like you said there’s work to do so I best get going.”

“Yeah, see you around.”

“You can’t keep this up, your father’s worried.” An elderly man around his mid 70s said.

“Pa, we both know he isn’t.” Nathan replied.

“How can you be certain when you’re always running away, I can’t be your hideout forever son.”

“I already said I’ll see him soon enough, haven’t I?”

“And yet you say that while doing nothing so forgive my skepticism.”

“Did my mother send you this time?” Nathan asked right before Oretta walked in.

“Sorry sir, I had no idea you were in a meeting. I’ll excuse you.”

“Oretta this is your office just as much as it is mine and If I had a meeting I’d use the conference room. On no account should you attempt to leave on such grounds again.”

“Understood sir.” She walked towards them, “Good day.” She greeted the elderly man.

“Good day my dear, you’re really beautiful.”

“Thank you very much.”

“And why are you in today?” Nathan asked.

“Is he still mad?” Oretta pondered, “I wanted to cover up my work load because I’d be off for a while.”

“Off why?” Nathan managed to say before being interrupted.

“Oh come on Nate, stop questioning her. Forgive my grandson, this is his own way of saying you’re beautiful.” He laughed, “I know he’d take forever to let you know directly.”

“Pa, please.” Nathan said and Oretta smiled at how annoyed he got, “I’d be over at my desk if you need anything sir.”

“She’s beautiful.”

“I know, you’ve said that a lot already.” Nathan said.

“Are you aware because I said it or because you see her? You can’t pretend around me boy, you know this.”

“I see her pa, happy?”

“I haven’t seen your eyes light up like this in forever, if she makes you this happy then be sure not to push her away with your madness.”

“You’ve been on fire today with the jabs.”

“Invite her to the house, if you don’t I will.”

“She’s busy, managing both school and work can’t be easy.”

“Nathan, you either invite her over this weekend or I will.”

“Yes sir.”

“I’d take my leave now.” He got up and turned to Oretta.

“Princess, I’m off now but I’m hoping to see you soon.”

“”Take care sir.”

“Yes, walk me out Nate.” He smiled, “You don’t have to tell me.”

***

“I’ve been asked to invite you over to dinner this Sunday.”

“Okay sir.”

“You don’t have to if you don’t want to, my grandfather can be overbearing.”

“No it’s fine, I look forward to it.”

“You stay in school right.”

“Yes sir.”

“You’d just text me whenever it is you’re ready and I’ll come pick you up.”

“Uhmm sir?” She paused, “Are you mad at me?”

“No, why would you think that?”

“Its nothing, I just thought you were.”

“I’m not mad you.” Nathan walked to her desk, “I can’t possibly be.” He stared at her intently.
